Yellowstone National Park offers very limited ground transportation, and taxis are essentially the only on-demand option once you're inside the park. There is no Grab, Uber, or Lyft service, so you'll rely on local taxi companies that operate out of the gateway towns (West Yellowstone, Gardiner, Cody, and Jackson). Vehicles can usually be summoned by phone or, in the busier villages, by walking up to the nearest lodging desk or visitor center and asking staff to call one for you. Because demand is low and distances are long, rides are arranged by reservation rather than hailed on the street. Give at least an hour's notice, more during peak summer weeks. Choose a taxi when you need door-to-door convenience, early-morning trailhead drop-offs, late returns from back-country hikes, or when you're traveling with bulky gear. For simple point-to-point moves inside the park (e.g., Old Faithful to Canyon Village), the park's seasonal shuttle bus is far cheaper. But it runs only a few times daily and requires advance booking. If you're staying in a gateway town and only need a lift to the entrance gate, taxis are again the only direct option. From there you can transfer to the in-park shuttle or tour bus.
